Is Gold Still Sexy?

Many investors are fearful that the end of gold’s run is near, and you can’t blame them one bit! But those who buy gold now (even with possible further declines that may be as low as $1200/oz) could very well be the ones that make out like bandits in the end. Central banks remain net buyers, having boosted their holdings by more than 15 million ounces in 2012 and this could double in 2013. Historically, fiat currency is at risk and gold continues to represent real wealth and for that reason, we will continue to buy. Not all at once but dollar cost averaging into this shiny metal over time can ultimately bring a big boost in profits.

To answer the question, we think yes, gold is still sexy and leaner and meaner too! We like mixing this precious metal with certified numismatic coinage as part of a carefully reasoned, practical and well-proven investment strategy.

2013 National Coin Week, April 21-27

The 90th annual National Coin Week is being celebrated April 21-27, 2013 with the theme “Buffalo Nickel Centennial: Black Diamond Shines Again.” Events and activities will focus on the Buffalo/Indian Head nickel (1913-1938). Black Diamond was the name of the bison that likely served as the model for the coin’s iconic reverse.

OHC is celebrating National Coin Week with the following events:

All rolls of Buffalo Nickels, Buffalo Nickel collecting books and Buffalo Nickel library books available at a 10% savings all month!

Get your child involved! Have your child send a drawing of the Black Diamond Bison for a chance to win a Buffalo Nickel collecting book that contains numerous Buffalo Nickels and a Buffalo Nickel library book. The winning artwork will be framed and displayed in our gallery. Get your child started building their own collection! The winner will be chosen April 27th.

Sergio Bustamante Biography

Since the 1960’s, Sergio Bustamante has been internationally recognized in the world of creative arts and crafts. Sergio Bustamante’s work encompasses a variety of art forms, including paper mâché, ceramics and bronze. Recent innovations include distinctive lines of fine jewelry and beautifully crafted furniture. His creations reflect a unique and imaginative individuality, style and creativity distinct from, though often copied by, other artists, making his works so desirable to art aficionados worldwide.

Though born in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Sergio Bustamante has lived in the Guadalajara area since early childhood. In his youth, he studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara, but abandoned this pursuit when his talents and interests drew him to the fine arts and crafts. He began with paintings and paper mâché figures, inaugurating the first exhibit of his works at the Galeria Misracha in Mexico City in 1966. In the early 1970′s, he traveled to Amsterdam, where he further developed his talents. After his return to Guadalajara, he established in 1975, along with other artists, the “Family Workshop Studio” in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico.

While Bustamante’s works initially focused on painting and paper mâché, his talents inevitably led, in the mid-1970′s, to the creation of sculptures in wood and bronze, many reflecting animal themes. 1979 marked the inauguration of innovative furniture designs in wood and glass with bronze accents, currently available in distinctive patterns and motifs.

The creation of ceramic sculptures in the mid-1980′s provided avenues for the use of color and form in ways not previously explored. In 1992, the initiation of an extensive line of exquisite jewelry in bronze, gold and silver, many set with precious and semi-precious stones and, again, often reflecting animal themes, marked a new and expansive direction for his creations. In this same year, a new series of paper mache sculptures was introduced. In the new millennium, Bustamante continues to explore uncharted paths for the further expression of his uniquely imaginative and gifted talents.
